Sino-American realtionships have always been bitter-sweet. On the one hand China’s economic strength is hard to ignore, but on the other, the fundamental ideological difference is too stark. The USA had been hostile to the PRC (Peoples Republic of China) for about 30 years since its inception. Perhaps, America never predicted that China, would one day rise to such a level on the global stage. The Chinese today, view American bon homie very cautiously. This feeling is not contained to the Communist Party of China, but the general public as well. The history between the nations is too chequered to bury all differences instantly.

America on the other hand, wants closer ties, only to make its dominance more relevant to the 21st centuary. America wants China to be under its wings, as they see that only the Chinese have a realistic chance of over-shadowing them in the near future. So it makes sense to patronize China when America is still at the top.

Its a complex equation that it sure to get even more complicated over time. Its arguably the single most important bilateral realtionship, that will define the world in the 21st century.
