My previous post was on Friends and this is one is on its clone, How I Met Your Mother. You can’t help but notice the similarities between the two. The characters, for instance, are sketched on identical lines. Barney Stinson is Joey re-incarnated and Robin Shabotsky is Rachael, only slightly different.
Despite being similar to Friends, How I Met Your Mother (HIMYM) was not a run-away success like the former. Perhaps it’s too early to judge but still, I will stick my neck out and say it, HIMYM is a good show but not great. It still has not become a cult thing like Friends.
Ted Mosby:
With a well etched character line, Josh Radnor scores well playing the role of the lead, Ted Mosby. The story line revolves around his life and to be fair on him, Josh Radnor does full justice. His boyish looks and a guy next door like demeanor complement his character well. A smart choice, I would say.
The other characters are also smart choices, especially Barney and Robin. They fit the part perfectly.
On the whole, is this what sitcoms are now? Well formulated story line, predictable characters. And sometimes even predictable moments in the show. Well, that’s for us to wait and see.
