Bored with slow internet connections..? Well, I am. Its one of the most buggin things in the world, that you are not able to connect to the internet at high speeds. Every time you sign up for a new connection, you are made to believe that its the fastest available in the market. Only later do you know that well, it wasn’t so fast after all!
Thomas Friedman, in his book “The World is Flat” argues that so much of optical fibre was laid around the world in the latter half of the 20th centuary, that there would no connectivity issues anywhere in the world. (It was one whole chapter in his book). Clearly, that was not enough. Bandwidth constraints are pegging a lot of users of the intenet.
Dial-up modems have limited speeds, up to 56-Kbps, and are surprisingly the most popular means of connection to the internet for more than half of the users. This clearly indicates that if the world is to become more wired, higher internet speeds are a must.
A lot of issues are to do with prices. And customers are always on the look out for a better deal. This kind of a competition may work well in other sectors, but over here it isn’t. Companies making a prudent investment in this sector, will reap huge dividends in the future.
