Winning or loosing a battle in life has a lot to with the mind. Not everyday will be a red-lettered day, but the maturity to keep the ball moving comes from a determined mind. Mental toughness is a virtue worth pursuing.

Great men have the ability to stay tough in difficult times. This, when read in an another way will sound like this: Greatness comes with the ability to stay mentally tough in difficult times. And that is the beauty of success. It comes to anyone with this virtue.

Indians have a tendency to over estimate this virtue. We call them god-men, saint-men, etc. I am not taking a shot at atheism, but only insisting that the first difference between such men and us, is in the area between our ears. Westerners have a more rational approach to the functioning of the mind, this, more than anything else makes us envy them, despite our own achievements.

A case in point would be that of master batsman, Sachin Tendulkar. To Indians, he is God. But to cricketers from other countries, he is just another cricketer, but someone who comes at them really hard. It’s a matter of perspective. And we, Indians would like to be on the side where we sit back and admire rather than emulate.
