Unnai Pol Ovruvan is a remake of the Hindi movie “A Wednesday”. Kamal Hassan stars in the movie with a rather sedate performance. Only an actor of his calibre could pull this off. Not to mention the histrionics of Mohan Lal, who plays the role of a Police Commissioner.
The music of the film is done by Shruthi Hassan. And she comes off with a neat effort.
The Story:
The movie is about an ordinary lay-man taking his vengeance on the system. I will not play spoil-sport, as the crux of the movie lies in its story, and revealing it would be spoiling the interest of the movie goer.
Kamal and Mohan Lal:
The two stars complement each other through out the movie, even though they meet only once in the movie. Such is the prowess of these stars, and it speaks very loudly in the movie.
Overall, the movie is worth watching. And any day better than the typical formula based movies. In an industry dominated by formula based scripts, this movie is a novel attempt, even though the story is borrowed.
I would strongly recommend the movie for anyone who has not seen it so far.
Rajinikanth is the eternal, evergreen star of Tamil Movies. He has caught the imagination of the audience for over 2 decades and is still going strong.
Rajini is perhaps the most saleable star in the Tamil Industry today. His start was however not so great. He started life as a bus conductor and spent his early years in Karnataka. It was by chance that he was picked for the role of a side-kick in one of K. Balachander’s movies. And it was K.B. who noticed the potential in the man and brought it out in the form of powerful roles.
But at that stage, Rajini was still a villain material and all his roles came with a dark shade. It was destiny perhaps, that someone of his looks would set the audience wanting for more. His Tamil diction was not great and still his choice of roles kept him the audience’s mind. It was the movie Billa that changed life for Rajini. The role was that of a hero with a negative shade and the script had already worked wonders in Hindi(Don-Amitabh Bachan).
Ever since then Rajini went from one success to another and became the Mass Hero of his generation.
The humility of the man at this age is perhaps a message to all the younger stars today.
Kamal Hassan is perhaps India’s most versatile actor. The man began his journey 50 years ago and since then he has gone from strength to strength.He debuted as child actor along side Gemini Ganesan and caught every one’s attention with a touching performance. Then, became a main-stream hero in his teens. He was quietly mustering up a size able fan base back then.
That is real passion lay in doing meaningful roles, is evident in his focus towards such scripts in later years. In his 30’s Kamal was well and truly on his way towards establishing himself as a credible actor.
His admiration for Sivaji Ganesan further kindled the fire in him. And to this day, Kamal looks up to him, quite literally, as Sivaji is no more.
His success lay in re-inventing himself every once in a while and thereby keeping himself up to date on changing trends.
His performance in “Avvai Shanmukhi”, “Micheal Madan Kamarajan”, “Dasavatharam”, “Unnai Pol Oruvan”, “Devar Magan”, “Pancha Thanthiram” and so many other movies will remain etched in the audiences memory for many years to come.
Here’s a tribute to the man, Kamal Hassan.
