Barack Obama’s winning of the Nobel Prize came as a huge surprise to the world. That the Nobel Committee is biased is a well known fact. After all, Gandhi was nominated several times but never won and worse, Hitler was also nominated several times. But it somehow maintains its credibility, perhaps for lack of competition.
Recommendations for the Peace Prize should be made some 6-8 months in advance. Back then President Obama couldn’t have even figured his way around the White House, let alone walking the narrow roads of International diplomacy. This raises the all important question, what did Mr. Obama achieve in 3 months of presidency that made him a contender. Perhaps the prize was given to him to stop him from becoming like his predecessor.
What’s worse, it will be another 50 years to know the name of the person who nominated Mr. Obama.
The Nobel Committee sure works in a weird way.
